Barge Traffic is Up on the Tennessee River
Due to Positive Economy


"I've counted 6 barges in one day...that seems like a lot more than usual,"  comments L. Richey at Huntsville's Ditto Landing with his son watching the barge traffic at the Dixie Highway Bridge.

With soaring fuel prices, it only makes sense for commercial traffic on the Tennessee River to be increasing.  Cities like Knoxville and Chattanooga continue to grow at a heavy pace.  Barging materials for infrastructure projects, like asphalt, makes more sense than transporting over land.

1. Sharks in the Tennessee River? "I want somebody to show me how a shark locks through 13 locks on the Tenn Tom, makes a right and locks through 3 more locks to Lake Guntersville.
